DeKALB - "The Gavin Wilson Show - As Time Goes By," an original narrative musical written by local resident Gavin Wilson, will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30 at the Egyptian Theatre, 135 N. Second St.

This is Just Make It Happen Productions' first performance of its 2005-2006 performing arts series.

The play features a storyline about a man finding a book of music left behind by his recently deceased grandfather.

The book is discovered to hold the key to a family secret. Wilson is the narrator in this fantasy look at what it would have been like if his grandfather was a famous vaudeville star and if his grandfather had put his career first, before his family.

Wilson, who has a degree in music composition, also rearranged special compositions, which he will perform with his father, Gordon Wilson, a professional musician, and his two youngest sons, Holden and Adam. He also will play guitar, piano, trumpet and ukelele.

The show also will incorporate a jazz trio and a string quartet as well as singing and dancing.

For the past three years, Wilson has written and performed a show at the Egyptian Theatre as a benefit for the theater. This year's show takes standard jazz and show tunes and weaves them together with an original story line, tying in the importance of music and family in people's lives.

Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door and are on sale at the Hillside Restaurant, next to the Egyptian Theatre and from members of participating area nonprofit groups.

All proceeds will be donated to the Egyptian Theatre Operations Fund.

The cast includes Denny Vaupel as Grandpa Millard Wilson, Cheryl Johnson and Erin Grych as Grandma Rebecca Swartz in the present and in the past, Roger Hintzche as the minister/announcer, Wilson as narrator, Brett Hamilton as the muse of Millard (dancer) and Tori Brantley as the muse of Rebecca (dancer).

Gordon Wilson is band leader, piano player and singer.

Other musicians include Scott Leist on clarinet and saxophone, Brian Ritter on drums, Roger Hintzche on bass, guitar and banjo, Anne Montzka on violin, Owen Cox on violin, Anna Mayne on viola, Linc Smelzer and Ben Smelzer, both on cello, Holden Wilson on alto sax, Adam Wilson on violin and Denny Vaupel as rehearsal pianist.
